It’s been 30 years since Resident Evil 2 has been released and has shown what survival is meant to be – keeping in mind that it was released in 1998, just 3 years before 9/11 (it’s something you cannot forget, so the game was released in a whole different world than we are now). The game has changed. Because times have changed, or because the game is actually softer than what we see in everyday life. 2018 is not the year of zombies, and the game has re-invented itself twice already. First, in 2005 with RE4, then in 2017, with RE7.
The real question is: are people scared of zombies anymore? Let us ask another question: do people really need a Resident Evil 2 remake?
Can this horror game make it in 2018-2019?
We don’t know whether the game can be scary in 2018 or 2019 – this is something the team behind the game will have to discuss. The director, named Kazunori Kado said that there’s one thing to do, and that is to make zombies scary again.
How can they improve the game?
In order to do this, the team has worked on multiple aspects: the timing of when the zombies raise their arms; how they actually recover from gunshot wounds, their behavior when they’re almost dead (the real dead, not zombie dead). However, there’s one problem: can the format of the game be really scary, when there are so many other games that are even better?
There were so little games – horror games titles that were as great as Resident Evil 2 back in 1998.
We cannot do anything but wait to see if the Resident Evil remake is something worth playing or not.
