Android TV Enjoys Tens Of Millions Of Users And More Than 100 Partners

Google’s Android TV has been a significant entrance in the streaming box industry since its first days on the market. It comes with a multitude of features, smart and intuitive GUI, and many more. While we already know that Android TV is very popular, we didn’t realize until now how many users are actually using this gadget and how many partners it has. Now, thanks to Google executive, we learned that Android TV enjoys tens of millions of users around the world and more than 100 partners.

Shalini Govil-Pai, senior director of product management for Android TV told for Multichannel News that Android TV is currently very popular across Europe and Asia, while worldwide it totals tens of millions of users.

According to Shalini Govil-Pai, half of Android TV’s users come from Google’s operator partners. The executive added that Android TV had been deployed by over 100 pay TV operators from all over the world.

Even though Europe and Asia bring the most users to the Android TV platform, the US market of this gadget is also on the rise, in particular since AT&T is probing Google’s streaming box. On the other hand, TiVo is expected to roll out an Android TV-based box at CES in January 2019.

Also, Android TV is the basis for dozens of streaming boxes from various manufacturers, such as the Xiaomi Mi Box and the Nvidia Shield TV. Between these two, however, Nvidia Shield TV is available in Walmart stores across the US and Canada and is delivering the usual Android TV experience with a focus on gaming, too.

The biggest problem with Android TV-based streaming box is that the OEMs are usually late on deploying new Android versions, such as Oreo, let alone Android 9 Pie.
