It’s been two years since Nintendo Switch got released on the market and it proved to be quite successful. Many companies are looking to port big and awesome games to Switch, and Electronic Arts look like they’re raising the bar.
An eagle-eyed Youtuber called Doctre81 checked out an EA Software Engineer’s LinkedIn profile and saw something of great interest for everyone. The profile was not publicly revealed. Among other information, there was also a mention about the individual that worked on porting software development kits to the Nintendo Switch. The person doesn’t talk about the EA Frostbite engine, but they do say they worked on SDKs that were used in Battlefield V and Anthem.
Frostbite Engine Might Also Bring New EA Titles on the Switch
At the moment, FIFA games on Switch are running on a different engine which was custom-made. But if the LinkedIn profile is accurate, it means that EA is planning to bring Frostbite engine support to Switch and games like FIFA can use the same engine that the Xbox One and PS4 use. Along with bringing Frostbite support, we could also see more games that run on the engine on the Switch.
Back in 2017, the FIFA lead Andrei Lazarescu said that the team made a custom engine for the Switch because it was a better approach to making the new FIFA game run at a good quality:
We intentionally chose to do a custom engine because we felt that rather and try and get Frostbite running and end up having to downsize things and making it just a smaller, lower-quality version of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, we wanted this to be a FIFA that stands on its own two feet.
Perhaps EA found a way in the meantime to make the engine work on the Switch without compromising the quality of the games and potential future EA games.
