Google Android January 2019 Security Patch Launched On Pixel Smartphones

The first update from Google in this year, the Android January 2019 Security Patch rolled out already for Pixel smartphones. This new update is set to solve out Pixel bugs, among which that one that caused audio issues when recording video. According to Google, the new security path “improved audio quality when recording videos for both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.”

According to the new Google Android January 2019 Security Patch release notes, the update is fixing 13 issues dated to January 1st, 2019 and 14 dated to January 5th, 2019. As reported by the users, these vulnerabilities are either high or critical.

As Google reported, the most severe of the bugs is a “critical security vulnerability in System that could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process.”

The Google Android January 2019 Security Patch has already gone live for Google’s Pixel, Pixel 2, Pixel XL and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, as well as the Pixel C tablet. Pixel 3 and 3 XL are not benefiting from the recent update.

“Unfortunately, Google did not update the Nexus 5X and 6P, likely signaling the end of support for those devices. That is not all shocking, however, as neither of the Nexus 5X or 6P was expected to receive updates past November, as the month marked the end of Google’s commitment to support those two devices for three years,” according to MobileSyrup, which revealed that the new Google Android January 2019 Security Patch is only about 60 Mb in size.

In conclusion, Google Android January 2019 Security Patch is rolling out for Pixel smartphones (but not on Pizel 3 and 3 XL), solving out Pixel bugs, among which that one that caused audio issues when recording video and other problems that have been reported between January 1st, 2019, and January 5th, 2019.
