EA to Cancel Star Wars Game: Here’s Everything We Know

Electronic Arts have recently canceled its open-world Star Wars game, according to some reliable sources. The announcement of the game came around together with the shutdown of Visceral Games in 2017, and it has been worked on at EA’s office in Vancouver. That’s where Battlefront and FIFA were made, too, and they’ve been working at the Star Wars game ever since 2017. Until then, Visceral was the one to work on a Star Wars game. It even had a codename: Ragtag. EA has been assisting the project, and when they closed Visceral Games, they took over the game.

Are these two games the same?

However, it’s not right to say that Star Wars from EA Vancouver is the same as Ragtag. They rebooted the project entirely, but they kept some of the art assets. However, they’ve transformed it in an open-world game. But it doesn’t matter anymore, because they canceled it, too. It has the “Orca” codename, and apparently they needed to release something early, perhaps in 2020, and this game wouldn’t have been finished by them.

What happened to Ragtag?

EA hasn’t shown anything publicly, but some developers from there had talked about it when they announced Visceral’s demise. They said that if they wanted people to play it and then come back, they needed to change the design.

Jedi: Fallen Order

In June last year, the studio announced that they’d expanded their Motive studio to Vancouver, too.  We don’t know what the next game will be. Keep in mind that Respawn is also making a Star Wars game, called Jedi: Fallen Order. It will come out in fall 2019.
