Nintendo Keeps Working On 3D Gaming – Would It Come To Nintendo Switch?

Nintendo launched the Nintendo 3DS console in 2011, but it quickly released a 2DS variant for the fans who didn’t like to join the extra immersive quality approach the Japanese company proposed. Even though Nintendo took a step back, the company keeps working on 3D gaming. But would this feature come to Nintendo Switch?

Nintendo Keeps Working On 3D Gaming

According to a new patent that Nintendo filed to the US Patent and Trademark Office, Nintendo works on a so-called “Eye Tracking-Enabled 3D Viewing” system. The patent explains that the system is made of a camera that follows where the users are looking and, accordingly, it delivers a 3D image.

“Viewpoint movement detection can provide collision-related game logic benefits such as allowing a player to dodge projectiles, giving a game character an ability to ‘see’ the player when not behind line-of-sight obstacles, and other advantages,” reads the patent file.

Would 3D Gaming Come To Nintendo Switch?

Since that’s only a patent, we don’t know for sure if Nintendo would indeed launch the so-called “Eye Tracking-Enabled 3D Viewing” system for its present or future consoles. However, if it would come to Nintendo Switch, this 3D gaming feature would fortify the console’s position as the indisputable leader of the video game consoles industry.

As we reported in a recent article, Nintendo Switch ended 2018 as the leader of the industry as it surpassed PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in popularity and units sold. Nonetheless, Nintendo games, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, in particular, grossed millions for the Japanese company in 2018 and should keep on the same track in 2019.

On the other hand, 3D gaming concept might be fun for gamers, but it could also be outdated, to some extent, since we now have virtual reality and VR games which are already growing in popularity and appreciation.
