Super Smash Bros. Melee Will Not Make Its Appearance at Evo 2019; Here’s the Reason Why

The community behind the Super Smash Bros. Melee is not pleased after it found out that that the game won’t be at EVO 2019, which is the biggest fighting game tournament from 2019.

How popular is Super Smash Bros?

The game is 17 years old now, and it has been present at every fighting game tournament in the last ten years. There were hundreds of thousands of live viewers every time. Strengthened by its friendly competitive characters, like “Leffen” (William Hjelte), “Mango” (Joseph Marquez), “Hungrybox” (Juan Diebmada) – the game was the most-watched this year, and we saw this when it came to the 125,000-strong viewership that took place earlier this month at Genesis 6 (yes, during the Super Bowl).

The competitors of Melee cannot wait to take part into the upcoming tournaments. However, the exclusion of the game from this even happened with a reason: to send a message to all its fans from all around the globe – it’s time for a change.

What actually happened at EVO?

The last game of the series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has come with a lot of excitement. The last game that was announced at the event was Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st], which is not as popular as our game, but very good for the 2D fighting scene. The organizers of EVO decided to put in their lineup a “funeral” video for Melee’s run at EVO. In its conclusion, we read “thanks Melle for these moments.” After this, Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma stated that he had no idea what happened and that he cannot even think of a good tweet. The organizer of the EVO event didn’t forget to mention at the end that they will be offering free water.
