Mortal Kombat 11 is one of the most sought-after games in the series
Mortal Kombat is one of the most popular video game franchises in the world, with the first title being released 1992. Few fans know that the core concept was a fighting game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
When the idea failed to materialize the focus was shifted to a fighting game which followed horror and fantasy themes. The game quickly became a hit, igniting a media phenomenon which included spin-off titles, live-action and animated movies, comic books, and toys.
The series is infamous for the depiction of gory scenes, with a large focus being placed on the finishing moves which are known as Fatalities (and showcase incredibly violent acts). The controversies sparked by the first entry led to the creation of the ESRB video rating system.
After several lackluster years, the franchise was rebooted in 2011 when Mortal Kombat 9 was released. Many fans are looking forward to the next game in the series, Mortal Kombat 11, which will be released on April 23, 2019.
