The latest update for Apex Legends on PlayStation 4 was Patch 1.08, which just rolled out over the past night. The developer did not announce the release of the patch since it was only meant to add PlayStation Plus skin rewards in the PS Store. But right after being released, hundreds of users began experiencing crashes.
Apex Legends on PS4 – How to Avoid Getting Crashes?
While in the beginning nobody knew what made the game crash, the Respawn community manager Jay Frechette created a post on the Apex Legends subreddit, informing players that the developer was aware of the crash reports:
“We are aware of the crashing reports on PS4 since downloading the update today. For some context, this patch was only meant to update the PS+ skin rewards in the Playstation Store, no changes were made to the game and this was pushed on Playstation 4 only.”
The 1.08 Patch only intended to introduce the skin rewards in the PS Store, but also introduced a nasty bug. After a while, Frechette updated the players on the situation. Investigations showed that the cause of the crash issue was the “Pick Me Up” banner frames for Lifeline:
“UPDATE: The “Pick Me Up” Banner Frames for Lifeline is trying to call up a non-existent file.”
Here’s how to avoid getting a crash if you play Apex Legends on PS4, as suggested by Frechette:
- If you’ve earned the Banner Card and hover over it in the customization menus.
- Viewing your Banner Card, squadmate’s, or the champion’s banner in the intro or on the in-world screens.
- Inspecting someone who has the card equipped by right-clicking a friend in the lobby.
The developer has disabled the banner as a partial fix until they work on a full fix.
However, players might still experience crashes when they unlock the Banner or equip it. A fix is now in the works and should be released as soon as possible.
