Cyberpunk 2077 and the Witcher 4 – Potential Release Date and Other News

Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming role-playing game that is being developed and will be published by CD Projekt RED (CDPR), a Polish Studio. It will be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation4 (or perhaps PS5) and Xbox One. CD Projekt RED is best known for their Witcher video-game series based on works of Andrzej Sapkowski. As of 2017 the series sold over 33 million copies.

With the success of their latest game, the Witcher 3, RCPR to redirect their resources to a totally new concept video game, Cyberpunk 2077. This will be an open-world role-playing video game based on the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop system, written by Mike Pondsmith and published in 1988.

With a team of 400 developers and using their own internal game engine, REDengine 4 CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated game on the horizon. Although most of the time games do not always live up to the hype, after playing their latest masterpiece, the Witcher 3, we can expect that Cyberpunk 2077 will surpass our expectations.

Cyberpunk 2077 timeline

Cyberpunk 2077 timeline is set 50-years after the one in Cyberpunk 2020 however there is a bit of uncertainty whether changes whether made or not to the timetable.

The game creator, Mike Pondsmith stated that “at this point, we plan to continue the timeline and you will see the things that you saw in 2020, but they will somewhat be changed. And that will affect both the timeline and also the fact that cellphones went from the size of the brick to the size your thump, and then again to the size of a brick. So you are going to see some shifts in technology.” He confirmed on Reddit as well that the timeline was not changed.

On the other hand, CDPR stated that the game is set 50-years after the events in Cyberpunk 2020 and is a parallel timeline: “Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t only set 50-years after the source material but it also takes place in a parallel timeline. This gave the team the freedom to create a game that respected and referenced the source material but also suited the shift to the video game medium.”

Cyberpunk 2077 – Gameplay

The game will be played from a first-person view and you will be exploring a world called Night City, a very active futuristic high tech urban surroundings. One of the most exciting news is that CDPR has confirmed that nothing in Cyberpunk 2077 will be procedurally generated and this could explain why is taking so long for the game to be released.

When you die you will see a “game over” message however failing an objective will not stop V from continuing the storyline.

Players will have some interesting interactions with NPCs including sexual relationship.

Another important piece of information that was confirmed by CDPR is that the gameplay will not be linear and restricted like in the Witcher 3.

Unlike the Witcher 3 in which you would rarely climb up, the exploring universe being mostly flat, in Cyberpunk 2077 the world will be very vertical. Being in a city it is only natural that the player will be able to scout and investigate multiple floors in different buildings.

Although air travel hasn’t been confirmed yet, the vehicular travel will be available. This is a great feature considering that Night City is compartmented into 6 regions and traveling by foot won’t be the most practical way of transportation. These regions are the corporate City Center, immigrant-inhabited Watson, suburban Heywood, luxurious Westbrook, industrial Santo Domingo and gang-infested Pacifica. The vehicular travel can be automated so that you can focus on gunfights. Yes, vehicular combat is available along with high-speed chases.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Combat

It will be from a first-person perspective and you will have access to weapons and melee extensions that will assist you in combat or transversal. You can customize your skills and moves in your character build by upgrading your “cyberware” implants at a “ripperdoc” and spending “Eurodollars”, the in-game currency.

Using their bionic eye, players will be able to inflict four different types of damage: physical, chemical, EMP and thermal.

Cyberpunk 2077 Character

The main character name in the story will identified as “V”. Players will be able to tailor every detail of their character from physical attributes to class and style.

There will be there main classes: solo, a combat-focused class, techie, a machinery focused class and Techrunner, a hacking focused class

The customizable attributes are going to be: Strength, Intelligence, Tech, Constitution, Cool and Reflex.

V will be able to earn experience from doing missions and random exploration. Another type of experience will be “Street cred “acquired by players from completing side mission that will be used to unlock new vendors and content.

Cyberpunk 2077 teaser and gameplay trailer

First time CDPR released a teaser, was in the beginning of 2013. Few years later, in 2018 they shared a 48-min gameplay trailer. In it we can notice that there will be a lot of hacking into enemies’ network tracking their location or performing remote kills. There will be different hacking modules: Brain Wipe, Pingy, code-cracker etc. A very entertaining aspect of the game if the option to place orders for prostitutes from the same vending machine you will be able to order food and drinks.

Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 2019

The studio confirmed on Twitter its presence and their plans to show Cyberpunk 2077. Hopefully, besides a new insight into gameplay we will also get a release date.

Another thrilling news is that CDPR confirmed through community moderator, Donata Poplawaska,is planning to release another AAA RPG by 2021a lot of fans are hoping that this intellectual property will be the Witcher 4. The position of the company is very strict however: “The first three ‘Witchers’ were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game ‘The Witcher 4’. This does not mean, of course, that we will leave the world of The Witcher.”

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on GOG store and Steam, however no Epic Store exclusivity. Its pre order is already live on Amazon and other online retailers for $59.99 and the studio confirmed that there will be no microtransactions.
