Developer Larian Studios Is Announcing Baldur’s Gate 3

We are finally receiving news after a long period of inactivity about the ex-BioWare RPG series. Baldur’s Gate is coming back with Baldur’s Gate 3 which was officially announced on Google E3 Stadia Connect Stream. On the event, the details were focused on the cloud stream service, but through this information about the price and release date, we also know about the games from the platform. Even if the game Baldur’s Gate 3 is not a Stadia exclusive, we know it’s included, and it will be on PC as well.

Baldur’s Gate 3

We aren’t quite surprised by this announcement. When Larian Studios had posted a teaser to its website, the possibility of having Baldur’s Gate 3 came up too. The developer is behind Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2. On its website, the company has teased the number three. When we saw the mention of number three, Baldur’s Gate 3 was taken as a mistake, because it was implying that the franchise is being resurrected. Everybody then thought of a teaser about Divinity: Original Sin 3. After that, the official announcement came along with a new trailer.

What we see in the trailer is a bit disturbing. The trailer shows us a wounded knight that goes through a transformation. First, its eyes are getting dark, then the muscles and bones are contorting. The skin bloats into sludge, and he is slowly changing into a Lovecraft creature. Before the announcement, Larian said that there would be some Easter eggs and the company is trying to do with Baldur’s Gate 3 what no other company had done with an RPG.

Finally, in a press conference, Larian says that Baldur’s Gate 3 will push the boundaries of the RPG game with a rich narrative that goes with the unparalleled player freedom, unique companion characters, memorable combats, and important decisions. The developer hasn’t announced a release date for Baldur’s Gate 3, but for sure it will not be this year.
