In this guide, we are going to be showing you how to fix Mafia 3 startup crash on Windows 10.
Mafia III is a top end game, which can be played on Xbox, PS4 and PC. However, gamers who play Mafia III on their PC have complained of a rather stubborn error, which crashes the game on startup.
To fix this error, if/when it occurs on your PC, try the solutions herein.
How to Fix Mafia 3 Crash on Startup Windows 10
This startup crash error has been a major cause of concern for Mafia III players, especially those running the game on PC. And while 2K Games (Mafia 3’s developer) has promised a patched release (for over two years now), this error remains a nagging issue.
Anyway, below are some fixes you can try:
Fix 1: Verify Cache’s Integrity
The startup error could mean that the game was not completely installed. Hence, try and verify its cache’s integrity and fix as appropriate.
To do this
- Launch Steam and navigate to your games library”.
- Locate and right-click “Mafia III”.
- Select “Properties” > “Local Files” (tab).
- Click on “Verify Integrity of Game Cache” and then wait for the process to run.
If there is any missing key or faulty installation part(s), Steam would fix and update it as appropriate.
If the error persists after this, you can clear the cache: launch Steam > Setting > Downloads > Clear Download Cache.
Fix 2: Reinstall Visual Studio Update – 2015
This is an update for Windows 10, and if it’s missing or faulty, you are bound to encounter game crashes such as this. So, try and remove the “Redistributable pack” (Visual C++) from your PC.
After removing the pack, go here and reinstall the update. Then, launch Mafia III and see if the game still crashes on startup.
Fix 3: Sign in with Local Account
If the error persists, you can sign into Windows using a “Local account” (instead of a Microsoft account):
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info > Sign in with a local account instead.
Check if this fixes the error.
Closing Note
Before running any of the fixes above, ensure that your Windows 10 PC meets the GPU/CPU/RAM/Storage requirements of the game. Also, make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date.
