Digital Overload

Apple has decided to block the iOS 15 update for two very popular iPhone models

According to information obtained from sources close to the American company, Apple will stop users’ access to the iOS 15 version, if they use these iPhone models launched older than 4 years.

iOS 14 will remain the last major iOS overhaul of iPhone 6S owners (launched in 2015) and the first generation iPhone SE (2016), Apple conditioning access to the future version of iOS 15 on the basis of a better version of hardware.

Apple will use iOS 15 to boost sales of the new iPhone mini

The change comes after this year Apple ensured the compatibility of iOS 14 with all major versions of iPhome. Given that the iPhone 6S and iPhone SE are among the best-selling iPhone models in history, it is unlikely that the number of copies in circulation will decrease significantly in a single year. Thus, it remains for Apple to force the speed of the renewal cycle by blocking the access of older generation devices to new firmware versions, using as an excuse the old argument of incompatibility with older hardware versions, which would not have the processing power / memory resources to run the latest and most advanced iOS revision.

Thus, according to the list based on the latest available information, the compatibility list with iOS 15 will include 17 iPhone models:

iPhone 12 Pro Max
iPhone 12 Pro
iPhone 12 mini
iPhone 12
iPhone 11
iPhone 11 Pro
iPhone 11 Pro Max
iPhone XS
iPhone XS Max
iPhone XR
iPhone X
iPhone 8
iPhone 8 Plus
iPhone 7
iPhone 7 Plus
iPhone SE (2nd generation)
iPod touch (7th generation)
Introduced in September 2015, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were strongly followed in March 2016 by the iPhone SE model. Both were very popular in their time, later enjoying free software updates, extended until 2020. But with the debut of the new iPhone 12 mini series, with a design similar to the iPhone 6s series, Apple is directly motivated to “convince” its users to choose the upgrade path as soon as possible.
