Trump bans Chinese mobile payment services and other Chinese applications

Donald Trump has two more weeks in office, but that doesn’t mean he is giving up restrictions on Chinese companies. On the contrary, the President of the United States of America has signed a new executive order blocking transactions through Chinese payment applications such as Alipay, WeChat Pay but also the purchase of content in several other applications.

The new executive order stops transactions in Chinese mobile applications on iOS and Android. Thus, payment applications such as Alipay, QQ from Tencent and WeChat Pay will no longer be able to make payments in the US. Then, apps like Cam Scanner, QQ Wallet, SHAREit, VMate and WPS Office will no longer be able to sell content through mobile platforms.

Donald Tump’s order will be enforced before he leaves the White House

Of course, the motivation behind this decision is that these applications threaten the national security of the United States:

“The pace and popularity of the spread in the United States of certain applications for mobile devices or desktops and other software applications developed or controlled by people in the People’s Republic of China continues to threaten national security, foreign policy and the United States economy,” is part of the text. from the executive order.

This executive order will be implemented immediately, according to the US Department of Commerce, just before Donald Trump hands over the mandate to Joe Biden, who is the president-elect in 2020.

Earlier, Donald Trump tried to block even the social network TikTok, which, however, obtained in court the right to operate in the US, despite attempts by the president to block access or force the parent company to sell US business to a American company.

A probably unintended consequence of banning these applications is the limitation of the Chinese community in America to communicating with Chinese relatives through Chinese applications. Because there is no official access to US social media applications in China, these applications are sometimes the only quick way to communicate with people outside the country.
