Soccer Women’s World Cup 2023: USA and Netherlands Are Still the Best

The United States of America was competing against the Netherlands in their second game of the tournament. Supporters were chanting “U-S-A, U-S-A!” that booming around the Wellington Regional Stadium before the game quickly died down as the Netherlands gained an early lead. Before their play on Thursday (July 27), the United States had won their previous 17 consecutive matches without falling behind in the score, which was the longest winning run of any team in the history of the competition.

The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) and the Netherlands, two of the best teams in the world, battled to a 1-1 tie on Thursday during the 2023 Women’s World Cup. This was a replay of the 2019 World Cup final, which the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) and the Netherlands competed in.

Lindsey Horan, the captain of the United States team, scored the equalizer for her team with a powerful header off of a corner kick, which led to euphoric celebrations in the fans.

I felt the momentum the whole time. I think the first half, we could be a little disappointed in how we played, but I think we fixed things right away. The pressure that we got on, the amount of chances and opportunities that came from it – so proud of the team and their response, stated Horan, the US captain.

The United States Women’s National Team is now unbeaten in 19 matches in the World Cup. This is the longest unbeaten streak in World Cup history, including both the men’s and women’s competitions.

Defending champions for the second year in a row, the match between the United States of America and Portugal is next on the schedule for August 1, while the Netherlands will play Vietnam on the same day. After the group stage matches have been completed on August 3, the competition will advance to the knockout stage with the 16 teams that have advanced.
