Windows Central informs that about 400 million monthly active devices use Windows 11. Although this operating system has been around since late 2021, its predecessor, Windows 10, still holds the supremacy. Most PCs out there cling to Windows 10, the operating system that’s already almost a decade old.

Despite its age, Windows 10 is still preferred, and it will happen likewise for plenty of time. Microsoft hasn’t been convincing enough when it comes to making its users install Windows 11, but even so, all operating systems have their flaws. It’s also the case for Windows 10, whether we like it or not.

If you have corrupted Windows system files or registries, don’t be surprised if the ‘Diagnosing your PC’ error occurs as you use Windows 10. Such a problem can indeed be very frustrating, which means that we need to learn a few possible ways to solve it:

Perform a startup repair

Perhaps the first step that you need to take is performing a startup repair. To do so, you need to boot your computer and let it access the ‘Diagnosing Your PC’ screen. The “Automatic Repair” window will appear, and you will need to select “Advanced options.” Further, you will need to hit the “Troubleshoot” option, select “Advanced options” once again, and ultimately smash the option that says “Startup Repair.”

Check for hardware problems

From time to time, hardware issues can trigger the ‘Diagnosing Your PC’ error. This means that you need to ensure that all your hardware components are connected the right way. You need to see, for instance, if your hard drive or SSD is working the right way. If it’s falling, you will have to replace it. Also, a newly added hardware component might represent the problem. Therefore, you need to temporarily remove the new graphics card or RAM that you’ve added to see if the issue persists or not.

Use SFC and DISM to repair Windows

Repairing your copy of the Windows 10 operating system by using DISM and SFC can truly be what you need. To do so, you need to select “Advanced options” from the “Diagonising Your PC” screen, then choose “Troubleshoot,” hit the “Advanced options” option, and select “Command Prompt”. Once you’re in the Command Prompt, feel free to run the following commands one at a time:

sfc /scannow
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Once you enter the commands, the System File Checker (sfc) will scan and repair the system files that are corrupted, while the DISM (Deployment Imaging Service and Management Tool) will restore the image health for Windows.

Reinstall the operating system

If none of the methods described above does the trick for you, guess what’s left? You can simply reinstall Windows 10 itself and see if the problem will finally go away or not. To do so, you will need a USB drive to create a Windows 10 installation media. You will have to boot the installation process itself from the USB drive. When the installation begins, you will have to choose “Custom: Install Windows only” and follow the simple instructions that will appear on the screen to reinstall the operating system. It’s a lot more simple to install a Windows operating system than it may sound, regardless of how much the idea might intimidate you!

Quite often, the ‘Diagnosing Your PC’ error will be followed by the famous blue screen of death (BSOD) error or even by other critical errors. But if you manage to take care of the ‘Diagnosing Your PC’ issue, there won’t be reasons to worry anymore.
