These last few weeks had WhatsApp receive numerous updates (and back to back, for that matter) for its Android version. Recently, the popular app received an update which allows users to try the Swipe to Reply feature and now another major update has surfaced. If you use WhatsApp on your Android device, then you should find out that you can now enjoy the PiP (picture-in-picture) mode support which was released with the app’s latest version earlier this week.
It is still in Beta and comes with the 2.18.301 version number and it previously wasn’t available for the general public while it was still in its early beta versions because of developmental reasons. That’s why WhatsApp had to undergo a lot of changes before it was able of being released.
Finally, now WhatsApp has the PiP support included in the latest beta version available for the public and the stable release is expected to be available in coming weeks. What does this mean for you? Well, PiP support means that you can play video content from Instagram, Facebook or Youtube (to name the biggest platforms) within WhatsApp, meaning that you don’t need to open a certain app to see a video.
However, this doesn’t mean that you can go through chats while the video is still playing because it doesn’t work this way. This kind of feature is available only for the iOS, for now. Moving on, here’s how you can get this new feature on your phone.
First, you need to update WhatsApp to the latest version so you’ll get the PiP mode. If you already updated but you don’t see the Picture in Picture feature, then you should back up your conversation history and reinstall the app. Each time you install this app, it comes with the latest configurations, so you should get the new feature as well.
