If Activision keeps the already established rotation for developers for the new year, too, then it’s Infinity Ward’s turn in 2019. Ashton Williams, Senior Communications Manager at Infinity Ward, might have confirmed that in a tweet she posted in the first day of the year, depicting a skull. Many have thought that was a hint to a Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 release in 2019, but, in fact, it might suggest that the next Call of Duty 2019 game might be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, a sequel to the popular CoD story arc.
Since Infinity Ward was the developer behind Ghosts title, the franchise’s fans believed that the post was a direct suggestion to a Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 game.
But we should note that Infinity Ward created the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, one of the most appreciated in the Call of Duty franchise, before developing CoD Ghosts and Infinite Warfare.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 or Modern Warfare 2 Remastered?
According to some reports, the skull GIF posted by Infinity Ward’s Ashton Williams is a hint that a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 title would be the next Call of Duty 2019 game, which would center around Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley, a character in the Modern Warfare series, who was wearing a skull-patterned balaclava.
However, “Ghost” was killed by General Shephard in the game, so in case CoD MW4 would focus on this character, then it would be a sequel to the second episode of the series.
On the other hand, given the success of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Ashton Williams’ tweet might mean that the next Call of Duty 2019 game would be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. Nonetheless, the skull GIF might refer to a brand new Call of Duty series, so we’ll have to wait for more details on that topic.
