Facebook announced the rollout of a new feature that permits users to delete the messages they sent recently by accident to wrong contacts or whatever. The function initially created for Mark Zuckerberg and other Facebook executives would roll out gradually to Facebook Messenger apps around the world on iOS and Android.
“After Sony Pictures’ emails were hacked in 2014, we made a number of changes to protect our executives’ communications. These included limiting the retention period for Mark’s messages in Messenger. We did so in full compliance with our legal obligations to preserve messages,” Facebook stated for TechCrunch in April 2018.
Now, finally, the feature became available for Facebook Messenger users around the world. It would gradually roll out for users on iOS and Android, as well. But there is a catch! You can only delete a message that you accidentally sent to other contacts or whatever only within 10 minutes after you delivered the message.
Facebook Messenger Finally Allows Users To Remove Messages They Sent Recently
As reported yesterday, Facebook Messenger allows users to remover messages they sent recently. However, the function is not quite as you might expect. Recipients would receive a notification informing them that a message has been deleted in a chat. They can still read the message via the respective notification.
Besides, a “Remove for You” function would also roll out on Facebook Messenger. This one permits users to remove their recently sent messages, but only for them. That means the messages would remain visible to the other persons in chats but not for you.
Before the announcement regarding this new feature in Facebook Messenger, about two weeks ago, other news emerged, talking about an infrastructure change that Facebook is planning for its WhatsApp and Facebook instant messaging apps. Those modifications would allow users to sent messages across the two platforms.
