Apple does not have a very encouraging tradition of repairing iPhones outside of its services, but for several years now, the company has a program that can provide the necessary components and independent repair centers. Until now, however, the iPhone 12 series could be repaired for more serious problems only in its authorized centers or partners, but from now on, it seems that there is a large enough stock of components to be offered to other centers. While this is good news, the costs of repairs are not good at all.
iPhone 12 can now be repaired outside of Apple centers with original parts
From now on, Apple will allow independent services to provide repairs even for the glass cover on the back of the new series of phones. This repair is generally only available outside of the warranty, for those who do not have Apple Care + insurance and is the most expensive operation you can do for an Apple smartphone.
This is because the entire housing must be replaced, requiring the removal of all components from the original housing and their installation in the new housing. However, repair prices usually exceed half the price of the phone, and many prefer not to repair the rear window in the event of an accident. Others, on the other hand, have no choice, as authorized repair centers are not available even in all major cities in the countries where iPhones are for sale.
Thus, the news that there will be independent centers should be good news, even if the price of repairs could be as expensive as in an Apple center.
Here are the prices for repairing the cover on the back of iPhone 12 series phones:
iPhone 12 Pro Max – $ 599
iPhone 12 Pro – $ 549
iPhone 12 – $ 449
iPhone 12 Mini – $ 399
It is interesting to see, however, that the prices for these repairs are identical between the iPhone 12, iPhone 11 and iPhone X generations, even if certain models have been on the market for 2 or 3 years.
