Nvidia has announced two new gaming video cards at Computex. These are the ones I’ve been hearing about lately, improved versions of the GeForce RTX 3080 and 3070 models, the Ti models. These are more efficient than the original variants, but they will not replace them in the offer, but will be available as intermediate models between the original and the superior variants. Thus, the RTX 3070 Ti will be positioned as performance and price between the RTX 3070 and 3080, and the RTX 3080 Ti will be positioned between the original 3080 and the top RTX 3090 model.
More than half a year after the launch of the RTX 30 models, NVIDIA announces new high-end models. Meanwhile, the company has introduced and launched only lower-end models, such as the RTX 3060, 3060 Ti, laptop models and the new RTX 3050. Thus, it is for the first time in the RTX 30 series when the performance level of the new models could surpasses previously released models.
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti: the new gaming flagship
The RTX 3080 Ti will be the new “flagship” of the RTX 30 series, according to NVIDIA, even if the RTX 3090 has been on the market for a long time. In fact, the upgrade in terms of video memory compared to RTX 3080 is only 2 GB on the Ti version. Next, the RTX 3090 offers 24 GB of video memory, which is double. However, we are also talking about GDDR6X memory, but faster than the standard 3080: we have a bandwidth of 384 bits, for a speed of 912 GB / s (compared to 320 bits / 760 GB / d).
At the base of this model will certainly be the whole GA-102 chip, the same chip that we find on the RTX 3090, but with very few “shortcomings”. This means that the performance offered will be very similar to 3090. GeForce RTX 3080 Ti comes with 80 processing units, 10240 CUDA cores, 80 RT cores and 320 Tensor cores. It also has the same number of playback units (ROPs): 112. The processor frequency is only 30 MHz lower. The 350W consumption is the same as on the RTX 3090.
But price is another matter. While the RTX 3080 has officially launched at $ 699, and the RTX 3090 at more than double, $ 1,499, this model falls somewhere in between, at $ 1,200. Somehow the price is not surprising, as it is just a slightly limited RTX 3090, which could offer a similar performance in gaming. The launch of RTX 3080 Ti is scheduled for June 3. It remains to be seen whether users will be able to buy this board at the “real” price, or whether there will be enough stocks to cover demand.
In fact, NVIDIA says that these new models are limited for mining, so those who want to mine cryptocurrencies with them will have only half the performance available.
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti: a mid-range to high-end model
The RTX 3070 Ti model looks similar to a more limited RTX 3080. We are talking about a model that uses faster memory than the standard 3070, GDDR6X, compared to GDDR6 and with 6144 CUDA cores. The processor runs at a frequency of 1.77 MHz in boost and 1.58 GHz standard. However, the memory remains at 8 GB. However, the power consumption increases from 220W on the 3070, to 290W on the Ti model, very close to an RTX 3080.
In fact, the new RTX 3070 Ti board benefits from a cooling system similar to the 3080 and 3090 series, with fans on both sides, different from the standard 3070, with two front fans. The RTX 3070 Ti model is expected on June 10 at a price of 599 US dollars.
NVIDIA also announced at Computex, in addition to the two graphics cards, that Doom Eternal will receive an update that integrates Nvidia’s RTX and DLSS technologies along with The Ascent, Dying: 1983, Icarus, LEGO Builder’s Journey and The Persistance. Also, other games like Rainbow Six Siege and Red Dead Redemption 2 will receive DLSS.
