OnePlus Nord CE 5G is the budget version of last year’s flagship model, prepared with refreshed hardware and a better price.
Framed in the mid-range range, Nord CE 5G will have its official debut on June 10. For those wondering, the name “CE” comes from “Core Edition”, meaning nothing more than a basic edition of the much more expensive flagship model. We could call it a kind of entry model into the OnePlus family of devices.
The slightly harder news to digest is that the flagship model, OnePlus Nord, reaches the second generation. The new version will also be developed on June 10, along with the Core Edition model based on the previous flagship. Both will be presented for the European and Indian markets, suggesting that these devices will not reach the US or China. In fact, the original OnePlus Nord was only initially launched in these two regions.
OnePlus Nord CE 5G – specifications
According to the preliminary list of specifications, OnePlus Nord CE 5G comes equipped with a 6.43 inch AMOLED screen, relatively compact for a modern smartphone, capable of rendering images at Full HD + resolution using a refresh rate at 90Hz. The latter aspect is a good compromise for saving battery, which at a capacity of 4500 mAh is enough and that’s about it. The good news is that once discharged, the battery can be charged from 0% to 70% capacity in just 30 minutes, using the 30W AC adapter included in the accessory package.
At the back, the 64MP main sensor camera provided by Chinese manufacturer Omnivision has little chance to impress, as does the 8MP ultrawide camera and 2MP DoF sensor. In the corner of the screen we will find a single 16MP camera, which can be a good thing for those who hate the look of the perforated screen.
The phone will have two equipment versions 6 / 64GB and 8 / 128GB, both with internal storage based on the UFS 2.1 format, relatively slow by current standards.
OnePlus offers for the Nord CE 5G model the Android 11 operating system in Oxygen OS 11 interpretation.
The equipment list is completed with a single speaker facing down and a jack headphone output.
The phone comes in an all-plastic case (including the side frame and cover on the back). Despite the combination of less resistant materials, OnePlus Nord CE 5G will have a thickness of 7.9 mm, easily passing as a premium model. The pre-order campaign will first start in India, right on launch day. So for the actual availability in European stores, we still have some time to wait.
