Kingdom Hearts 3 Is A Technical Failure on Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, But It’s Still An Excellent Game

Kingdom Hearts 3 was, undoubtedly, the most sought-after video game of 2018 and the beginning of 2019. It finally came out on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox. Now, even though Kingdom Hearts 3 remains a great game as regarding the gameplay and storyline, it is a technical failure on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

A technical analysis carried out by Digital Foundry revealed some severe problems in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Kingdom Hearts 3’s Resolutions on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 Consoles Are Embarrassing for Square Enix

Kingdom Hearts 3 uses the renowned cartoon-style graphics. It might seem that, since the game lacks the rich graphical details of other titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, or Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, it would run smoothly. However, that’s not the case with Kingdom Hearts 3.

For unknown reasons, so far, the devs fixed the game’s resolutions at 2560 x 1440 on the Xbox One X, 2304 X 1296 on PlayStation 4 Pro, 1600 x 900 on PlayStation 4 standard variant, and 1280 x 720 on Xbox One. That means that Kingdom Hearts 3 achieves only 44% of the native 4K res on Xbox One X and just 36% for the PlayStation 4 Pro. By comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 boasts 100% on One X and 50% on PS 4 Pro.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Also Fails To Hold On To The Promised 60 FPS On All Consoles

As reported by Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts 3 targets 60 FPS. It works the best at that frames-per-second rate, but it fails to achieve it on Xbox One X, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The Xbox One X gets closer to targeted FPS with the game ranging between 50 and 60 FPS. On the other hand, on PlayStation 4 Pro, the game plays at between 30 and 50 FPS, sometimes going beyond 50 FPS, getting close to the targeted 60 FPS. Surprisingly, the standard PlayStation 4 variant runs the game at higher FPS rates than the Pro variant. Also, the base version of Xbox One plays the game at higher FPS than both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro variants.

In conclusion, Kingdom Hearts 3 is looking alright on all consoles, despite the problems debated above, observed by Digital Foundry, only that it could’ve looked and performed at a much higher level. But, the storyline is excellent, the gameplay is fun and addictive, so there is no reason not to try Kingdom Hearts 3.
