Pokémon Go Lunar Year Event Is Now Live – What’s New?

The Lunar New Year has become an event celebrated by the entire world in the past years. This year will be the year of the pig, and we can see that celebration has moved to games as well. Pokemon Go is one of them.

The popular mobile game prepared a Lunar New Year event, which is now available. Zodiac was chosen as the theme for this event. Players will be able to enjoy it for one week, and the event shall end on February 13, which is next week. The Lunar Year event will stop at 1 PM PST.

Bringing back Pokemon

This event will focus on twelve specific Pokemon. These Pokemon have been chosen for a reason. The 12 zodiac sings of the Chinese zodiac are the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog and the pig. The dozen Pokemon selected are meant to correspond to the animals of the Chinese zodiac. Here is the complete list:

  • Electabuzz
  • Mankey
  • Mareep
  • Miltank
  • Pontya
  • Poochyena
  • Rattata
  • Spoink
  • Torchic

During the Lunar New Year event, players will notice that these Pokemon will spawn more often than usual. More than that, since it is the year of the pig, the game will offer you a chance to find a shiny version of the Spoink Pokemon.

The event comes with numerous other advantages as well. For example, each time you catch and evolve Pokemon during the event, you will receive doubled XP. For example, now you can get 5000 XP for the first catch of the day on a 7-day streak. More than that, you will notice that there are increased chances of getting a lucky Pokemon when your trade Pokemon.
