Everyone uses WhatsApp nowadays as it has an incredible user-friendly system for messaging. However, many are unhappy with the fact that it displays the two blue ticks when they read the message that’s been sent to them, and one can even tap on the information option of the message to see the specific minute and second the message was read.
There are ways, though, to read the received message without the sender knowing you’ve seen it
Disable WhatsApp Read Receipts
One of the methods to read the message in secret, without leaving a trail is to turn off read receipts. This option is, however, two-sided: if you disable it, others won’t see when you read the message, but it won’t let you know when they’ve read yours as well.
Follow the below steps to disable the read receipts:
- Open the WhatsApp application and click on the three dots in the upper right side of the screen
- Go to the ‘Settings’ menu
- Tap on ‘Account’
- Choose ‘Privacy’
- Disable the ‘Read receipts’ option
If you’ve disabled the read receipts, you should also ensure to turn off Last Seen or it’s not going to really do much.
Disable WhatsApp Last Seen
There’s no point in disabling the read receipts if you’ve been online but still did not read the sender’s message: it’s actually even worse.
Also, this option won’t let you see other’s Last Seen if you disable yours.
- Open WhatsApp and tap the three dots on the upper right side of the display
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Tap on ‘Account’
- Go to ‘Privacy’
- Click on ‘Last Seen’
- Select ‘Nobody’
You’re all set now.
Turn on Pop-up Notifications on the Lock Screen
To view the full message on the notification pop-up on the Lock Screen, follow the below steps:
1. Open WhatsApp, tap on the three dots at the top right of the display
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Tap on ‘Notifications’
- Click on ‘Pop-up Notification’
- Select ‘Only when screen off’
How to turn on High-Priority Notifications
This feature allows you to read the message without being seen as it shows previews of notifications at the top of the screen. However, be cautious not to tap on it.
- Open WhatsApp, tap on the three dots on the upper right side of the screen
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Tap on ‘Notifications’
- Enable the option ‘Use high-priority notifications’
Read WhatsApp messages in the Notification Bar
Just pull down the notification and read the message, also you can reply and marked the message as read within the notification.
Not working: read the messages in Airplane mode
Even if you put your device on Airplane mode and read the message, the two blue ticks will appear once you exit the mode, allowing the sender to know you read the message.
