Let’s say you wake up one morning and wonder why YouTube is teeming with so many content creators, and you’re not among them. Surely, you can be just as great or awful as many of them, so why not learn to share your own wonderful or lame content with the world? Besides, who cares nowadays if your content lacks quality when you can simply delete any comments that you don’t like?
It’s not even mandatory to have a monster GPU nowadays to edit your videos well, as we’ve explained in a previous article. There are lots of video editing apps out there that you can use to edit your footage, and some of them work well, especially if you have a powerful smartphone, such as one of the latest Samsung or iPhone models. But could it also be possible to use a midrange phone to record your vlog? We’ll try to answer that question.
A lot of vloggers use midrange phones
It may come as a surprise to you that a lot of content creators on YouTube have used midrange phones to record their vlogs. Such devices are powerful enough nowadays to record vlogs, and you can even add memory cards to them if you need extra storage space. However, a midrange phone won’t always get the job done efficiently when it comes to recording vlogs, as here are some basic factors that you need to consider:
Camera quality:
As you’ve probably already guessed, you always need to take the camera quality into account when you think about video recording your vlogs using a midrange phone. You need good megapixel counts, as well as sensor quality. You also need to take into account how good a phone camera is if you plan to use it under low-light conditions. If that camera doesn’t fit, it’s best to record your videos only when and where you have enough sunlight.
Resolution and frame rate
You also need to take the resolution and frame rate into account when you wish to choose a midrange phone for vlogging, as the camera needs to support at least Full HF (1080p) resolution and a frame rate of 30fps (frames per second). Nowadays, there are plenty of midrange phones out there that can support 4K recording, and getting one of them is something you should definitely consider for your future vlogs.
Stabilization features
If you are not willing to buy yourself a stand or support for your midrange phone, you must make sure that the cameras feature optical image stabilization (OIS) or electronic image stabilization (EIS). Such features will reduce shaky footage when you have to record videos while moving.
External microphone support
When you watch a vlog, you need to make sure that you hear the sound as well as possible. The same thing applies when you want to make your own vlog, as nobody likes to watch content on a channel that sounds as if it was recorded in a barrel. Therefore, you can feel free to connect an external microphone to your midrange phone, as a lot of smartphones offer that possibility due to the headphone jack or USB-C port.
Battery life
Don’t forget to charge your midrange phone to 100% before you start to record your vlog, as vlogging can drain that battery life pretty fast. At the same time, you should definitely choose a phone from the start that has enough battery life.
As an optional measure, you can even consider carrying a power bank for that smartphone.
Having your own personal vlog to become famous on YouTube or other platforms is nothing spectacular these days, as each and every one of us can have plenty of followers. However, it can still be a pleasant experience.
