Since we’re almost into 2024, paying with your smartphone for the items you buy, either online or in-person, is something that cannot possibly surprise anyone. iPhones use Apple Pay to make such purchases, but it’s no secret that Walmart doesn’t normally support the app.
However, there is a workaround for the issue so that Apple Pay users will be able to pay at Walmart with such an app. It is possible to use Apple Pay at the famous American multinational retail corporation by adding an Apple Card to the Walmart app.
First of all, we need to clarify one important aspect.
Why does Walmart refuse Apple Pay?
It’s important to keep in mind that the specific reasons behind Walmart’s decision not to support Apple Pay can vary and are not always revealed officially by the company itself. However, that doesn’t mean that we cannot speculate.
For instance, the competing mobile payment system might be to blame. Let’s remind ourselves that Walmart is a partner in the Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX), which is responsible for developing CurrentC, a mobile payment system. It’s reasonable to assume that Walmart may have chosen not to accept Apple Pay to promote the use of its own mobile payment solution.
How can you use Apple Pay at Walmart
You know what they say that rules were made to be broken, so that’s precisely what you will be doing this time. You’ll need an Apple Card, and if you don’t have one, you can demand it from the Walled app of your iPhone or iPad or even from the official website of Apple.
Step 1: Download and install the Walmart app from Apple’s App Store. You’ll find it appearing as “Walmart: Shopping & Savings.”
Step 2: Log into the app or create a new account if needed.
Step 3: Head over to the app’s “Wallet,” which you can find on the Account tab that appears on the bottom right side. By accessing the virtual wallet of the app, you’ll be able to manage any new and existing payment methods that appear on your Walmart account.
Step 4: It’s time to add the Apple Card! Select “Add New Payment Method,” then head over to “Credit/Debit Card” to enter your Apple Card info,
Step 5: Head over to Services. Once you’re done with your shopping trip, it’s time to head to the self-checkouts. In this area, you will see a QR code that advertises Walmart Pay. Head over to the Services area that appears on the right side of the middle tab at the bottom of the Walmart app. Ultimately, you will have to simply tap the Walmarrt Pay button.
Step 6: For the last step, feel free to use Walmart Pay! You need to scan the QR code from the register with the Walmart app’s Walmart Pay feature. The next step is to select your Apple Card as your favorite payment method.
