In a previous article, we’ve spoken about some of the best movies featuring Morgan Freeman, who is still one of the world’s greatest actors who ever lived. We didn’t mention one of the most important documentary movies in which Morgan Freeman takes the role of a narrator and interviewer as he travels the world in an attempt to learn the basic aspects of the most important religions.

Whether you’re a Christian, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist, or even an atheist or agnostic, surely you have a lot of important stuff to learn about the world’s religions from Morgan Freeman’s documentary. That’s because the great actor explores the depths of those faiths and many others: how and when they were established, by whom, what they promote, what they claim about the afterlife or the apocalypse, and a lot more.

Three seasons, 15 episodes

“The Story of God with Morgan Freeman” is a TV series that came out in 2016 and ended in 2019. It lasted for 15 episodes, but each of them was extremely interesting.

The documentary stands out for the fact that it offers a global perspective. That’s because the great actor Morgan Freeman travels to various parts of the world, visiting sites considered sacred, meeting with religious leaders, and engaging in interesting discussions with experts in fields such as theology, history, and anthropology.

Here’s what the summary tells us, courtesy of IMDb:

Morgan Freeman presents his quest in order to find how most religions perceive life after death, what different civilizations thought about the act of creation and other big questions that mankind has continuously asked.
Today, for better or worse, the power of religion touches all of our lives, no matter what our faith. This is Morgan Freeman’s journey to discover how our beliefs connect us all. This is the quest of our generation. This is the Story of God.

While the narrator, Morgan Freeman himself, expresses curiosity and wonder, the series refrains from advocating for any particular religious viewpoint. In other words, there’s really no reason to feel offended by the TV series, regardless of what religion you have or if you have a personal God or not.

Can science and religion coexist?

One of the biggest prejudices that people have when it comes to religion, in general, is that science and faith cannot get along. In Morgan Freeman’s documentary, that subject is debated as well in one of the episodes, and there are some strong arguments invoked there.

The first episode of “The Story of God With Morgan Freeman” came out back in April 2016 in the US through the National Geographic Channel. Although the series ended after only 15 episodes, we can surely hope to see Morgan Freeman be the narrator once again in other top TV series in the near future.
