Artifact, The First Valve’s Game In Years, Raised Negative Reviews on Steam

Artifact is the first Valve’s game in years, and it just rolled out a couple of days ago on Steam. However, there’s no reason to celebrate the new Valve’s card game, as it gathered more than 1,500 negative reviews within 48 hours, most of the gamers complaining about the in-game monetization system.

“An excellent card game, flawed by a terrible monetization scheme. The gameplay and the mechanics are really good, which adds a breath of fresh air to the genre, and the overall experience of the game itself. But the shady microtransaction practices prevent me from recommending it. The price of the purchase is not enough to fully enjoy it,” said Alixey, one of the players who took the time to review Artifact on Steam.

As I’ve already mentioned in the introduction of this article, the monetization system in Artifact, the first Valve’s game in years, is what upset the majority of the players. Otherwise, Valve’s card game would’ve been successful.

“The value of a full collection can, therefore,e be expected to be somewhere between $200 and $300 in a week or two after the launch – it can be higher in the first few days, those are always a bit crazy with people rushing to the market to pick up missing pieces for their collections and supply not catching up immediately,” also said Ville Kilkku.

“I do have a few concerns about the monetization model, though – if that purchase price doesn’t deliver value, Valve could still have a mutiny on its hands. For now, I’ll reserve judgement. In pure design terms, the potential for high-skill fun in Artifact is massive,” Will Bindloss’s review-in-progress pointed out.

Regardless of these more than 1,500 negative reviews the first Valve’s game in years raised on Steam, Artifact totaled about 60,000 players right after launch on the before-mentioned video games platform.
