WhatsApp Gold: It’s Just a Virus

We’ve first heard of WhatsApp Gold in 2016, and it was a complete hoax. It was said that it gives you a hidden feature of the app, that comes with extra features.

It’s a message that you get, that encourages you to download a virus, and it’s here again. The message comes with a video that will “come out” tomorrow, that’s called “Martinelli”, which will hack your smartphone.

People have started to send messages about this threat, telling others to spread the word about this hoax. They also say that if you get a message to update the WhatsApp app to WhatsApp Gold, then you must not do it.

The virus is said to be severe and difficult, and you cannot get rid of it.

The first part of this message comes with a “Martinelli” video, and then, in the second part, users are warned about “WhatsApp Gold”, which, if we are to be honest, kind of sounds like a scam.

WhatsApp limited edition

We’ve seen many variations of WhatsApp Gold since 2016. Many users have said that they got an exclusive invitation to install a limited edition of the app.

This limited edition was said to offer the ability to have video chats, send up to 100 images at once, and delete messages after they were sent. You get a link to click on in order for the download to start, which gets you to a site full of malicious software.

What you should do

If you do get the message, you’re advised not to click on it, and not to sign for the upgrade. What you should do it delete the message as soon as possible.

There’s only one version of WhatsApp, and it’s probably already installed in your phone. The upgrades for the official app come automatically, so you don’t need to worry about getting it manually.
