New Nintendo Switch Models Might Come Out This Year

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is now working on two new Nintendo Switch models. These new and improved consoles might come out this year, the WSJ’s sources said.

A cheaper Nintendo Switch version would come out in 2019

According to the sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, the Japanese entertainment company plans to release a more affordable Nintendo Switch, along with another new model that would have “enhanced features targeted at avid video gamers.”

The cheaper Nintendo Switch would reportedly come out without vibration features and detachable Joy-Con controllers. It would be a direct successor to the Nintendo 3DS, some voiced. This Nintendo Switch model might be the same one that Nikkei talked about earlier this year. If that’s true, this one would be smaller than a regular Switch console, and it would focus on portability.

Nintendo might also launch an improved Nintendo Switch model

While the sources cited by The Wall Street Journal said nothing about the high-performant Nintendo Switch model that would come out this year, too, there is a lot of space for improvements, and we can take some wild guesses in this regard.

However, it seems that we’re not going to get a Nintendo Switch model with only a few performance tweaks. Therefore, Nintendo it’s possible to release an upgraded Switch console with a newer graphics unit since Nvidia Tegra X1 GPU, currently used in Nintendo Switch, is four years old.

Accordingly, Nvidia might start working again for Nintendo, and it might provide the Japanese company with a new, improved GPU. That would definitely boost the upcoming new Nintendo Switch model’s performance and efficiency in running highly-demanding video games.
