Top 5 Most Disturbing Movies Ever

Everybody knows about horror movies with vampires, werewolves, zombies, and ghosts. While there’s no denying that such movies can indeed be pretty disturbing, especially for someone who hasn’t seen many of them, how about raising the stakes even more? How about talking about those kind of horror movies that actually have realistic plots? That’s the subject of this article!

Whether we like it or not, the world we live in is rarely all sugar, spice, and everything nice. At least a part of the movies that will be mentioned here point out pretty much those grim aspects of our society that we like to avoid mentioning. But guess what? Neglecting the problem doesn’t solve it, so let’s cut to the chase:

SAW (2004):

Directed by James Wan, the very first SAW movie led the foundation for a highly successful horror movie series. This movie is about two guys, played by Cary Elwes and Leigh Whannell, who find themselves trapped and tied up in a room without having any idea how they got there. They soon find out they are part of a deadly game of a psychopathic serial killer and that they need to play by his sadistic rules if they want to survive.

Cannibal Holocaust (1980):

In “Cannibal Holocaust,” a movie directed by Ruggero Deodato, a man who was even accused of killing his own actors, the plot presents the horrifying events of a documentary crew who were captured by cannibals in the Amazon rainforest. In terms of sadistic scenes, this movie has them all, and you need a strong stomach to resist until the end, as some viewers reported to have vomited. After watching “Cannibal Holocaust,” you will most likely have the feeling that you’ve seen a great horror movie, but at the same time, you definitely don’t want to see it ever again!

The Exorcist (1973):

Directed by William Friedkin, the classic “The Exorcist” movie from 1973 showcases the horrifying repercussions that demonic possession can have, even for the body of a young girl. At first, the Catholic priests that the mother of the possessed child contacts in order to save her are skeptical about the possibility of the young girl being indeed dominated by an evil entity. But soon, they will find out the hard way that they’re indeed dealing with demonic forces. “The Exorcist” remains a classic horror movie and probably the best of all time.

A Serbian Film (2010):

Directed by Srdjan Spasojevic and launched in 2010, “A Serbian Film” presents the events of a retired porn actor who decides to do one last performance to make some extra money. However, he discovers that he has been drafted into making a necrophilia and pedophilia-themed film.

This movie is loaded with sexual content, and you should definitely stay away from it if you’re sensitive to such type of content!

Cape Fear (1991)

In Cape Fear, the main role is taken by none other than Robert De Niro, who makes another unforgettable performance. But this time, he’s far from being charismatic or any mamma’s pearl. He plays the role of a psychopath who seeks revenge on an attorney who failed to defend him well during a trial. As a result, Max Cady (De Niro’s character) stalks the family of the attorney in a very disturbing way. This movie can definitely make you realize how terrifying a person can be if he starts to put all his ambition into tracking you down.

No trailers are necessary to speak about how horrifying the movies mentioned here are, as the footage can be too much to bear for some viewers. The article was mainly written for documentation purposes, and you should definitely stay away from the movies mentioned here if you’re too sensitive to gruesome and horrifying content!

Of course, our list is ultimately subjective, as surely there may be many other movies out there that can be perceived even a lot more disturbing than those mentioned in this article!
