If you are like most people, surely you want to find ways to make more money, be more productive, as well as being truly respected at your job. We all have to admit one fact, however, that in each and every workplace in the world, there are certain differences and tensions between workers and bosses. But guess what? We can all learn how to gain respect at our workplace, even if we are simple employees.
Nobody says that life in general and society in particular are fair. There are plenty of employees out there who are unsatisfied with their jobs, and one of the main reasons is that they are being mistreated by their bosses. Instead of complaining, such as the vast majority of people, we can learn how to look for solutions. Without further ado, let’s cut to the chase:
Be polite
In life and general and at work in particular, being polite and civilized to those you work with is a mandatory condition. We can even say that it’s an unwritten rule of society, as nobody will respect you if you do not respect others. Therefore, you need to be polite to others, but that doesn’t mean that you should be polite all the time. What we mean by this is that you cannot tolerate if the boss or colleague is being rude to you. You don’t have to be polite just for the sake of it, otherwise, people will definitely notice it and consider you a false person. Nobody likes false people and hypocrites, which means that it’s mandatory to maintain a certain balance – you must be polite, but not in absolutely any situation. You have to learn how to impose yourself in a civilized way if someone mistreats you. You can calmly explain that there is no reason for them to be rude to you.
Be honest
We are generally wired by nature to appreciate honesty, which means that people will indeed respect you if you are being honest with them. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you need to be honest in unnecessary situations, such as disclosing your PIN number from your credit card if a colleague asks you for it. Just go ahead and be honest with what you do, your work, and your relationships with your bosses and colleagues.
It’s also a great idea to be honest each and every time someone mistreats you in any way. Don’t just ignore it for the sake of being polite, as your colleagues may take advantage of your weakness. Feel free to speak out each and any time you feel mistreated in any way.
It would probably be unnecessary to tell you that it’s a very bad idea to skip work by lying. Your boss will definitely notice that something is sketchy, especially if you do it too often.
Keep your personal frustrations to yourself
We get it: each and every one of us has our own frustrations, as society is far from perfect. We sometimes feel the need to express our frustrations even if others don’t want to hear it. But let’s be honest for a second: would you like to hear another colleague complaining all the time about corruption, politicians, or the traffic, even though you both have work to do? Probably not. That obviously means that people can also not appreciate if you constantly express your frustrations with the world even though you have other stuff to do.
Jokes are okay, but there is a catch
Each and every one of us has our own sense of humor, which means that it’s okay to make a joke from time to time at your workplace, but you cannot afford to get into an extreme zone by turning yourself into a clown. When you need serious stuff to do, you need to have a serious attitude. Also, it’s a very bad idea to make any jokes that might offend someone, such as jokes about black people. There is a certain knowledge even behind the art of being considered an amusing person, which means that not anybody can do it.
These were our suggestions for what you should do in order to be respected at your job. Ultimately, perhaps the best advice, in this case, is to try to do your job as well as possible. Nobody likes sloths, in the same way that nobody likes liars, those who make racist jokes, or those who complain all the time.
