It’s no secret that AI tools such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Bard are threatening the jobs of numerous folks out there. Why would a company keep paying a person to do a specific job when AI would be able to do it for free and also save a lot of time in the process?
When OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI chatbot came out back in November 2022, it started a true revolution online. While a lot of people went wild with their enthusiasm, saying that the software will make us get rid of our jobs for good, others focused more on its negative aspects. ChatGPT allowed numerous students to cheat on their tests and will potentially leave a lot of us unemployed in the near future.
Although AI tools are still not intelligent and developed enough to do all the work for us, they may be on the path of becoming powerful enough in the near future in order to make many of us become unemployed. Content writers, such as journalists, content creators, or copywriters, are obviously among those who have their jobs threatened by the rise of AI tools such as ChatGPT. At the moment, there are tools out there that can check if an article has been written with AI tools or not, although they’re not 100% accurate. But in the near future, AI tools can become powerful enough to fool even those software tools.
ChatGPT has already passed the Turing Test, meaning that it has proven to be just as intelligent as a human being. That’s pretty terrifying!
Routine and repetitive tasks
Pretty much all jobs that involve repetitive and predictable tasks are especially susceptible to automation by AI. For instance, we could consider data entry clerks, routine customer service representatives, and assembly line workers. It’s no secret that AI-powered software and robotic systems could be able to perform such tasks more efficiently and accurately than human workers.
Retail and customer service
AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistance are already becoming increasingly common when it comes to retail and customer service roles. Such AI systems are able to handle customer inquiries, provide product recommendations, as well as assist with online transactions. In this way, the need for human customer service representatives is reduced.
Legal research and document review
AI technologies are also being used in the legal industry to automate tasks such as contract analysis, legal research, and document review. Such a task can take ChatGPT minutes or even seconds to solve.
