Samsung TV Turns On and Off Without Apparent Reason – How to Fix the Problem

Let’s say you’ve bought your first Samsung TV after your friends never stopped talking about how great the South Korean brand is, even when it comes to manufacturing smart TVs. And you know what? They’re totally right! Samsung doesn’t shine only when it comes to smartphones, as it has a pretty impressive history when it comes to building smart TVs as well.

The harsh truth is that there is no such thing as perfection in life, and that’s also available when it comes to technology. Even Samsung TVs will go through errors and malfunctioning, but the good news is that there are plenty of DIY actions that you can take without having to rush over to the service.

Various technical problems could cause your Samsung TV to generate a mind of its own and start turning on and off by itself. There’s no use thinking that you have ghosts in your room who are making fun of you, as the issue has some technical and logical reasons and potential fixes. One possibility is that your Samsung TV is getting hotter than the woman of your dreams, which means that it has to shut itself down to prevent any possible damage.

Why is my Samsung TV turning on and off by itself?

There are a few possible reasons and easy fixes when it comes to why your Samsung TV is turning on and off by itself. Behold:

The sleep timer settings

The sleep timer settings might have a problem, causing your Samsung TV to turn on and off by itself. In this case, you need to head over to the Settings menu, access General -> System Manager -> Time -> Sleep Timer, and ultimately hit the Off option.

Malware attacks

Unfortunately, not many people are aware that viruses can also attack smart TVs, not only computers and smartphones. Samsung TVs are not immune to malware, either, and it’s a good idea to perform a scan if your TV is malfunctioning. To do so, head over to the Settings menu, hit General, then select System Manager, go to Smart Security, and ultimately choose the Scan option. Wait for the scan to perform and finish and observe the results. If no viruses have been found, it means that something else is causing your Samsung TV to turn on and off by itself.

Outdated software

Not having the software up-to-date can generate issues for just about any device out there that can connect to the internet, whether we’re talking about a smartphone, a laptop, a TV, and so on.

The solution is simple in this case: you will just need to update your Samsung TV’s software. To do so, head over to the Settings menu, then hit the Support option, go to Software Update, and ultimately smash the Update Now button without hesitation.

Unplugging the TV could save the day

Did you know that simply unplugging the TV from its power outlet and waiting for a minute before plugging it back could also solve your issue? It’s debatable why such a simple measure can solve such an annoying problem like a smart TV turning on and off, but you just have to give it a try!

Eco Solution settings

A problem with the Eco Solution settings could also cause the Samsung TV to turn on and off by itself, thus interrupting your favorite shows. This problem also has a simple solution, as all you need to do is go to Settings -> General -> Eco Solution -> Auto Power Off -> Select Off.

If all the exposed methods fail, the last resort is to reset the settings. Obviously, by doing so, the settings you’ve established will also be erased, but at least you’ll (hopefully) get rid of your error.
