Did you see that coming? Neither did we and to my defense, as a main support, I don’t watch guides for other champions. But I browsed Voyboy’s Mordekaiser guide and in his second video that shows a full gameplay against the Riot games test team, I spotted a strangely missing icon (seconds 19-20) with a name under it: Aphelios!
Now you might say yeah, Aurelion Sol also appears twice, and there are also four other missing icons, but none of them have a name. About the second Aurelian Sol, RiotKingCobra has more details in this post.
What’s most interesting is that it is not the only strange thing you get to see in his video (I’m so grabbing this video in case it’s pulled down).
The AD Assassin From a New Faction – Could it Be Aphelios?
Could Aphelios be that champion that should show up later this year? Could it be the AD assassin we’re all waiting for? Here’s some context on the leaked name and what it could mean.
You remember the champion roadmap from League of Legends announcing two new champions, aside from Yuumi – a solo lane AD assassin (from a new faction) and a marksman said to be non-traditional:
“This champion’s arrival will send you deep into the jungles of Runeterra where a brand new faction, hidden from the rest of the world, will reveal itself. This assassin has powers which give them all the elements they need to use their surroundings in clever and innovative ways.
Trespassers beware and stay away from the walls, for nowhere is safe when you enter deep into these jungles.”
The name could be connected to the Assassin champion and the structure that I now realize it looks a bit like a spaceship crashed into the jungles of Runeterra. Plus, the name Aphelios is strangely similar to the term Aphelion which is ‘the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid, or comet at which it is farthest from the sun,’ so it is connected to that image. Now, is this the assassin champion or the nontraditional marksman? They might both be from the same faction, considering Riot’s teasing of the new ADC also included this image:
After digging through Reddit threads, we also noticed a few more leaks spotted by ThiIsNotALink, who saw some new items being revealed in Voyboy’s video. They are called: SpellThief’s Ring, The Lone Champion, and Mark of the Hunt!
