Roger Federer Celebrates Wimbledon Career; Fans Offered the Best Standing Ovation

It is time to celebrate the King of the Court! On Tuesday (July 4), when Roger Federer was honored with an extraordinary ceremony for his career and his record (eight singles titles at Wimbledon), fans, including Princess Kate, gave him a standing ovation that lasted for around one and a half minutes as he approached the Royal Box at Centre Court. The event is definitely a moment to remember forever!

On Day 2 of the grass-court competition that he once dominated, it was raining, and Federer was receiving a lot of acclaim and roars from the spectators. Federer waved his arms and tapped his chest while screaming “Thank you” over and over again. He was unquestionably going through a whirlwind of distinct feelings.

Federer, who will be 42 on August 8, proclaimed his retirement from tennis at the end of 2017 following a number of knee procedures.

His career actually came to an end in 2021 when he was defeated by Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals of the tournament held at the All England Club.

When I stop, the tournament still lives on. The tournament is bigger than any player who’s ever lived; I really look forward to the day where I retire, and I can come back and just have tea time, you know, on the terrace, Federer stated a while ago, when he was a bit younger, in an interview displayed during the ceremony.

During the event that took place on Tuesday, a video highlight reel was shown that comprised clips of Federer playing, competing, winning, and speaking at Wimbledon. Back in 2003, Federer claimed the first of his 20 career Grand Slam championships at Wimbledon. That marked the beginning of a streak of five consecutive victories that continued through the year 2007, followed by more titles at that venue in the years 2009, 2012, and 2017. Long live the King of Court!
